Lisa originally came onto the team to help her brother Vince manage the office and administrative side of the business after the loss of his wife, and liked it so much that she decided to make her stay permanent. She enjoys getting to work with her brother every day. Lisa loves spending time with her family and her horses to unwind outside of work.
Proud Owner of DAE
Vince had been working in the industry for 15 years doing a wide range of automotive and engineering jobs, here in NZ and overseas.
At that stage it was time to make his own name in the industry with the help of his wife Coralie, they started Douglas Automotive back in 2003, and with the thanks to our staff and his wife the business has grown from strength to strength.
Vince takes great pride in every job that passes through our doors, whether it be a simple oil change or a high end rebuild. At 18, Vince brought and rebuilt his own ’32 Ford Roadster, that is where the passion for restoration and eye for detail started along with his apprenticeship training from the best garage around - KG McLeod in Dunedin.
Now he has turned his lifelong dream of being able to bring over hand-picked cars from America into a reality. Vince loves building good long term relationships with customers, new challenges, and solving any problem that comes his way.
Having forged a strong friendship with Vince while working on his own business, Paul eventually joined forces with Vince to help him build what Douglas Automotive and Engineering is today. Our man in the engine room truly enjoys working on custom jobs, and being part of a good team. Paul has had the opportunity to take a ‘69 mustang back to its factory specs, thoroughly enjoying overseeing every detail from beginning to end.
Since he was just a boy, Steve has had a passion for cars. He followed that passion after he moved to Rotorua from Wellington, making the most of his fresh start as part of the team here at Douglas. Steve loves taking on new projects, big or small, thriving on the opportunity to get stuck in. He is spoiled for choice with the variety he is presented with daily, and can’t seem to get enough.
Glenn has always had an interest in working with machines, having done everything from installing a V8 engine in a Toyota Starlet to tuning the engine on a record breaking speed boat. His natural talent and eye for problem solving have carried him all the way from work experience at high school to where he is today. Glenn has previously spent 15 years specialising in Auto Air Conditioning, before finding his place here. He now enjoys the variety of work that is sent his way, as well as the working atmosphere.
A mechanic for 10 years, Mike has been developing a love for custom cars over his 3 ½ year span working with us. Getting the opportunity to work on such a variety of specialty vehicles has fostered this passion through all of the new challenges they present. Every day, Mike has the chance to push himself by working on something new with an awesome crew around him.
Brent has had a passion for cars from the get go, sharing the hobby with his V8 loving dad. After 8 years in the industry, he spent some time working on car audio and window tinting, before finding his way here. During that time, he also rode motocross, taking the time to work on his passion by fixing all of his own bikes. This year, Brent is looking forward to all of the events the team here has in store, as working on specialty jobs is always a treat.
Apprentice Automotive Technician
Luke got his start through a work experience program at high school, and quickly took to mechanics. In his words, he ‘annoyed Vince until he gave [him] a job’, and has been working through his apprenticeship with us ever since. Outside of work, Luke also takes part in cross country motocross. Luke has always had an interest in vehicles and has been enjoying the variety of new challenges he’s presented with every day, relishing the numerous opportunities to learn.
After making his start in carpentry, John found his feet doing general engineering work with a housing relocation company. John and Vince have known each other for 12 years, and have enjoyed working together for 10 of those. Currently, he is enjoying switching a 1987 C20 Chevrolet over to right hand drive, and can’t wait to get his hands on the next job.
John has been working in engineering for ‘too long’ in his words. Starting out his work in the UK, John has worked his way through a variety of projects, even finding his way to a short stint in boat building. John is possibly most proud of some of his work in Australia, where he was the Mechanical Foreman working on a new overhead crane system. He continues to enjoy working alongside his son in law, Vince, and the rest of the team.
Simon has been crafting and fabricating some pretty cool stuff for the last 12 years.
He really enjoys a challenge that means thinking outside the box and just loves being able to work on classic cars.
When Simon isn't in the workshop, he enjoys getting out on his mountain bike with his wife, walking their dogs and enjoying a cold craft beer.
Engineer, Air Con and Auto Sparky
Richard brings our team over 25 years experience in many aspects.
He is here to sort any Air Con, Auto Electrical or Engineering tasks just to name a few.
He's spent most of his life in Rotorua with his family.
Richard enjoys getting out on his KTM and GSXR and mountain biking.
This man of many talents has even built his own custom '65 Triumph Bobber!
Brett brings not only a massive range of skills but also an entertaining personality that can't go unnoticed. He's been hands on here at Douglas for about a year now and loves being apart of our work family.
When he's not with his work family, he's spending it with his wife and 2 boys.

MOTORBIKES & RESTORATIONS
Motorbike & Restoration Technician
James has worked predominantly in the Motorcycle industry for over 33 years!
He has worked as a technician and service manager for shops in Rotorua & Taupo. With a large chunk of his work being spent on the big names - Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, Honda and KTM, no challenge has been a hassle.
James spent the late 90's through to 2010 travelling NZ, Aussie and Europe as a Motocross Mechanic also!
When James isn't spinning spanners here, he's doing the same thing at home - he's always owned classic cars and bikes - Preferring to repair rather than replace.
"Do it once and do it right"
Roel has been in the Panel Fabrication industry for over 32 years.
His eye for detail and steady hands has seen him tackle every challenge from major insurance repairs, trucks, bikes, custom cars...you name it.
When Roel is tools down, he enjoys fishing, deer hunting and biking.
We're stoked to have another talented bloke on our team and look forward to growing our new Panel Beating division with him!
Vince and Lisa's Personal Assistant
Tracee loves being apart of the family business and takes pride in all the work she does - she even occasionally does bits and pieces in the workshop alongside our mechanics.
When she's not charming customers she enjoys riding her dirtbike, building things, gardening, cooking and spending time with her hubby and son.
Tracee also has a '76 Ford Capri that she will be restoring. She says that petrolheads run in the family so of course she has to have a car project of some sort (as long as it's a Ford!).
